Signs You’re Experiencing a Dental Emergency
Common Dental Emergencies
Severe Toothaches
- Rinse your mouth with warm salt water.
- Avoid placing heat directly on the affected area.
- Over-the-counter pain medication (like ibuprofen) can help manage discomfort until you can see us.
Knocked-out Teeth
- Pick up the tooth by the crown (not the root).
- Place the tooth back in the socket if possible, or keep it in a glass of milk or saliva.
- Call us right away to book an appointment for the best chance of saving the tooth. If you are calling outside of business hours, please call our emergency line.
Chipped or Broken Teeth
- Save any broken pieces and bring them with you.
- Apply a cold compress to the wounded area to reduce swelling (if any).
- If there is bleeding, gently bite down on clean gauze or a cloth.
Lost Fillings or Crowns
- If you have a filling or crown that has come loose, keep your crown in a safe place and contact us as soon as possible.
- Avoid chewing on the area until you see us.
Abscess or Infections
- Rinse your mouth with warm salt water.
- Avoid placing heat directly on the affected area.
